Armenia's Foreign Minister, Ararat Mirzoyan, has signaled that a framework agreement with the United States on the TRIPP transit corridor could be formally signed within weeks, according to a report by Arka.am. The announcement follows a visit to Yerevan by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on May 23, 2026.
TRIPP - the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity - is a U.S.-backed connectivity initiative first announced in August 2025, when President Donald Trump hosted Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the White House. The route runs roughly 43 kilometers through the town of Meghri in southern Armenia, along the Arax River and the Armenia-Iran border, linking Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave. It is designed as a multimodal corridor, modernizing rail, road, energy, and digital infrastructure along the way - positioning Armenia as a link in new east-west trade routes connecting Central Asia and the Caspian to Europe.
According to Mirzoyan, the text of the U.S.-Armenia framework agreement on strategic cooperation over TRIPP has already been fully negotiated and initialed, with political understanding in place. What remains, he said, are technical and formal procedures on both sides - work he expects to wrap up within the next few weeks, clearing the way for a formal signing.
Mirzoyan described the initiative as "a truly historic opportunity" for Armenia, framing the country's role in the corridor as central to its position in emerging regional supply chains and logistics networks.
For investors watching Armenia, the significance extends beyond diplomacy. A signed, formally implemented TRIPP framework would bring sustained U.S. backing for infrastructure modernization - rail, road, energy, and digital networks - directly through Armenian territory, alongside a long-term strategic rationale for Western governments and companies to deepen trade and investment ties with the country. Corridor projects of this scale tend to attract logistics, construction, and energy investment long before the first shipment moves - and TRIPP is one of the more consequential connectivity projects under discussion in the wider region.
Taken together with Armenia's recent run of large-scale announcements - from major international AI infrastructure investment to planned expansion of global consumer brands - the TRIPP timeline adds a geopolitical dimension to what has already been an active year for capital committing to the Armenian market.
